Want to get better at solving tricky problems, dreaming up cool ideas, and thinking in unexpected ways? These quick creative challenges are all about switching up how you see the world, and discovering that there’s more than one way to be clever.

We use these in workshops with children, teachers, and even business owners. This is because whether you’re designing a rocket-ship or running a meeting, creative thinking helps you find fresh ideas, spot new solutions, and enjoy the process along the way.

These five activities are fast, fun, and full of surprises. Try them on your own, with a friend, or in class. There’s no wrong answers - just brilliant, creative opportunities!

Here’s the set of exercises:

1. Flip It!

What if you did the opposite of what you always do?

  • Write down 3 things you always do at home or school.

  • Now flip each one! What if you did the opposite?

  • What new ideas pop up?

Why it’s cool: Flipping the rules helps you see things in a totally new way.

2. The Bad Ideas Contest

Try coming up with the worst ideas ever, and see where they lead!

  • Think of a regular or daily challenge (like being too busy or forgetting your homework).

  • Now solve it in the WORST way possible!

  • Look again… is there something secretly genius in your bad idea?

Why it’s cool: Bad ideas can hide brilliant sparks. This is how inventors get unstuck.
